Rigaku

Since its inception in Japan in 1951 Rigaku Corporation has been at the forefront of analytical and industrial instrumentation technology. With hundreds of major innovations to its credit, they continue to set the standard in x-ray analytical equipment.

Their range of instruments is unmatched and with class leading technologies such as:

  • Rotating anode x-ray sources
  • Truly self-aligning diffractometers
  • Fastest detectors on the market (HyPix and Pilatus)
  • Highest power systems

Furthermore, Rigaku also supply multi-layer crystals to other x-ray manufacturers, without which they would not be able to compete in the marketplace. With these crystals being developed in-house, they continue to lead the field.

Rigaku employ a number of different technologies as outlined in the following sections.

X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Rigaku offers a complete range of XRF products, including bench-top energy dispersive (EDXRF) and wavelength dispersive (WDXRF) spectrometers, high-powered sequential (WDXRF) spectrometers, and high-powered total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) for trace element analysis.

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)

X-ray diffraction (XRD) is one of the most important non-destructive tools for the analysis of all kinds of matter—ranging from fluids, to powders and crystals. From research to production and engineering, XRD is an indispensable method for materials characterization and quality control.

XRD is widely used in materials science, life science and the analysis of small molecules.

Protein Crystallography

Protein crystallography is a powerful structural biology technique that provides atomic resolution details about proteins and other macromolecular molecules involved in all aspects of life and disease. They have developed x-ray generators and optics to produce x-ray beams that are optimised for protein samples. They also offer a variety of x-ray detectors for efficient measurement of diffraction experiments. In addition, the SAXS camera has been specifically designed for isotropic protein solution scattering and optimised to be used in conjunction with rotating anode sources.

Radiographic Testing (Non-Destructive Testing NDT)

They also produce a range of radiographic generator sets for non-destructive testing (NDT). These include both pulse power and constant potential systems. This type of testing is very similar to medical x-ray technology but uses higher power to penetrate thick sections of dense material.

Rigaku Thermal Analysis

They also manufacture a range of thermal analysis instruments for materials characterisation. Used widely polymers, ceramics, raw materials evaluation and even pharmaceuticals Rigaku’s range spans a variety of different technologies including DTA (Differential Thermal Analysis), TG ( Thermogravimetric Analysis), DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), TMA (Thermomechanical Analysis), dilatometry and in situ DSC with XRD. Most instruments can be operated under controlled atmospheres e.g. humid atmospheres and many can also be optioned with auto sample loaders. Rigaku also manufacture the only all-in-one TG-DTA with MS (mass spectrometer) that is also the first to feature a Skimmer-type with fragment-free photoionisation technology resulting in high precision evolved gas analysis (EVA).
