Prethins Specimens For ION Milling

The Model 200 Dimpling Grinder is a state-of-the-art mechanical grinder for preparing electron microscopy samples. It is indispensable for samples requiring ion milling is used for final specimen thinning. The high precision dimpling grinder produces prethinned samples such that the ion mill only needs to remove a very small amount of material.

Dimpling is a process that involves rotating both the grinding wheel and specimen. By accurately controlling these motions, the central area of the specimen can be thinned down to just a few microns. This process is ideal for producing high quality, rugged samples with a large electron transparent area that are suited to TEM examination.

Precise Automated Operation

The automated dimpling grinder can be used for flat grinding, dimpling, or polishing. It features grinding rate control, a precise indication of specimen thickness, and an easy-to-use interface.

Accurate specimen positioning is made possible with an optical microscope with that can operate in transmitted and/or reflected light modes. The final specimen thickness is readily programmed for accurate, unattended operation. The Model 200 accepts mounted specimens from the Model 160 Specimen Grinder.
